Pakistan will have to look elsewhere for its strategic depth, if the present is any criterion. Four days ago, its air force attacked targets in Afghanistan, allegedly seeking to kill Noor Wali Mehsud, head of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and a designated international terrorist. But he apparently escaped the strikes—according to an unverified video in which he claimed to have survived—while four Afghan cities, Kabul, Khost, Jalalabad and Paktika were reported to have been hit.
