The US-Iran talks have ended without an outcome, something that should come as no surprise. There was only a small chance that Pakistan’s Islamabad mediation would work, given the background of toxic mistrust. They were intended to stabilise the two-week ceasefire that came into effect on April 7-8, and then to find a solution to the alleged core issues that motivated the US-Israel assault of February 28.
